ダライ・ラマ14世 Dalai Lama XIV(1935 -)

チベット仏教を代表する最高指導者ダライ・ラマの第14代。チベットを併合しようとする中国から迫害を受けインドに亡命し、ダラムシャーラーにチベット亡命政府「ガンデンポタン」を樹立した。

1989年にノーベル平和賞を受賞。フランスパリ名誉市民、カナダ名誉市民にも選ばれている。

No matter what people call you, you are just who you are. Keep to this truth. You must ask yourself how is it you want to live your life. We live and we die, this is the truth that we can only face alone.
No one can help us, not even the Buddha. So consider carefully, what prevents you from living the way you want to live your life?

自分の存在は小さすぎて何かに影響を与えることなどできない、もしそう感じているなら蚊と一緒に眠ってみなさい
If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito

変化を心から迎え入れなさい。ただし自分自身の価値観を失わないように
Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values

ルールをよく学びなさい。適切にルールを破る方法を見つけるためです
Know the rules well, so you can break them effectively

チベットにはこんなことわざがあります、「悲劇を力の源として扱え」。
どんな困難にあろうとも、どんな苦しみを経験しようとも。希望を失ってしまうことが、本当の不幸です
There is a saying in Tibetan, ‘Tragedy should be utilized as a source of strength.’ No matter what sort of difficulties, how painful experience is, if we lose our hope, that’s our real disaster

古き友が死に、新たな友がやって来る。まるで日々のようです。
古い日が過ぎ去り、新しい日が訪れる。
大切なのは、一つ一つを有意義なものにすることです:

Old friends pass away, new friends appear. It is just like the days.
An old day passes, a new day arrives.
The important thing is to make it meaningful:

もし問題の解決が可能であるなら、何も不安に思うことはありません。
もし、問題の解決が不可能であるなら、不安に思うだけ無駄です。
不安という気持ちは、何の役にも立ちません
If a problem is fixable, then there is no need to worry.
If it’s not fixable, then there is no help in worrying.
There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever

これが私のわかりやすい宗教です。寺など必要ではありません、難しい哲学も必要ではありません。私たち自身の頭と心が私たちの寺なのです。

When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it

No matter what is going on, never give up

心を発達させなさい。

Develop the heart,
Too much energy in your country is spent developing the mind instead of the heart

Be compassionate,
Not just to your friends but to everyone. Be compassionate

Work for peace,
In your heart and in the world. Work for peace

もう一度言おう、決してあきらめてはなりません。
