フレデリック・ダグラス Frederick Douglass(1818-1895)

アメリカ・メリーランド州出身の奴隷制度廃止運動家であり政治家。自身もアフリカ系アメリカ人の奴隷として生まれついたが、独学で文字を学んで教養を積み、20歳の時に奴隷の境遇から脱出。その後は晩年まで全米各地で奴隷廃止の演説を展開するなど、平和的方法で公民権運動に尽力した。

有名な著書は『フレデリック・ダグラス自伝;アメリカの奴隷』(数奇なる奴隷の半生)。
