ジャン=ジャック・ルソー Jean-Jacques Rousseau(1712 – 1778)

スイスのジュネーヴで時計職人の息子として生まれ、主にフランスで活躍した哲学者、思想家、作家。16歳でカトリックに改宗。家庭教師などをしながら各地を放浪し、37歳で応募したアカデミーの懸賞論文『学問芸術論』が栄冠を獲得。そこから意欲的な著作活動を始め、カントやトルストイなど歴史に名を残す思想家、作家たちに大きな影響を与える作品を数々と生み出した。

代表的な著書は、『エミール』『人間不平等起源論』『告白録』など。
