アイルランド出身の劇作家、劇評家、音楽評論家。また優生学者、社会主義者でもある。1925年にノーベル文学賞を受賞。

彼が手がけた代表的な戯曲は、「ジュネーヴ」「聖女ジョウン」「メトセラへ還れ」など。
