アメリカの女優、シンガー、スクリーンライター。約70にわたり、アメリカのエンターテイメント業界で活躍した。「アメリカン・フィルム・インスティチュート(AFI)」の『100年映画スターベスト100(女優部門)』で第15位に選ばれている。
代表的な出演作は、『わたしは別よ(She Done Him Wrong)』『美しき野獣(Klondike Annie)』『妾は天使ぢゃない(I’m No Angel)』など。
