ルネ・デカルト Rene Descartes(1596 – 1650)

フランスの哲学者。近代哲学の父として知られ、「我思う、ゆえに我あり」は哲学史上でもっとも有名な命題の1つ。

また、数学者としても功績を残しており、誰もが学校で習う「座標」(デカルト座標)を発明した。著作は『方法序説』『情念論』など。
